Quaffle

It’s been a minute since I last wrote about The Famous in Glendale, a craft cocktail bar still going strong. I recently went back one evening and was pleased to see some of the drinks I tasted this past Spring were still on the menu.

Here are some highlights! The Quaffle is very interesting with the combination of gin and Cherry Herring. With the addition of orgeat, I wondered if this was an Army Navy variation.

Quaffle– gin, Cherry Herring, orgeat, lemon

Glenfarclas

Or if you are feeling just a neat whisky, The Famous has a pretty decent selection. We decided to do side by side tastings of the Glenfarclas 12 and 17. We liked the 17 more but not only because it’s older. You can really taste the age in this mellow Scotch whisky.

It’s High Noon

If you’re feeling the need for a refreshing drink, get the It’s High Noon.

It’s High Noon – gin, apricot, cucumber, honey, lemon

Mr. Purple

The Mr. Purple is one of their best sellers. This long drink keeps you hydrated.

Mr. Purple– citron vodka, sloe gin, dry cucacao, lemon, soda

Worse Could Happen

I love the name, “Worse Could Happen.” This fruity (but not sweet) rye mixed drink with cantaloupe and rhubarb would be good before or during a meal.

Worse Could Happen– rye whiskey, cantaloupe, rhubarb, lemon

Midnight in Jalisco

I like jamaica (hibiscus) and was happy to see it being used in this Midnight in Jalisco drink.

Midnight in Jalisco– blanco tequila, hibiscus, orange juice, lime

Benromach

Back to the whisky, we tried the Benromach 10 year and the Peat Smoke 2005 single malt side by side. My uncle went with the age statement while I thought that was too easy. I really tried to like the Peat Smoke more but I also declared the 10 my favorite of the two.

Negroni Squared

I love a good Negroni. The Negroni Squared is double of gin and vermouth as well as Campari. I thought it was interesting to use both Old Tom gin and London dry gin. I love both Punt e Mes and Cocchi di Torrino so this was an excellent Negroni.

Negroni Squared – Old Tom gin, London dry gin, Campari, Punt e Mes, Cocchi di Torrino

Infamous

The Manhattan variation (or perhaps Rob Roy as this was Scotch), has a slight twist using yuzu bitters as well as amari.

Infamous – blended scotch, amari, vermouth, yuzu bitters

I’m writing a list of my fave cocktail bars soon and The Famous is my fave in Glendale.
